I am Sea Shucksmith, an artist and educator based in Brighton, transforming my lived experience into creative projects and artworks. My work often examines the disabled experience, particularly the feeling of existing out of sync with a heteronormative, neurotypical world. Art allows me to reclaim my narrative as one of creativity and recovery, rather than survival. My work communicates complex experiences on my own terms, inviting viewers into conversations around chronic illness, disability, neurodivergence, queerness, gender, and fatness. I am a qualified teacher and work as a Lecturer in Inclusive Education; my creative practice informs my teaching, and vice versa. 

In 2025, I exhibited locally and nationally, including curating a pop-up gallery as part of Artists Open House Festival. My mixed media sculpture ‘We All Remember it Differently’ was included in the Outside In National Open, displayed in the New Art Gallery Walsall and Christie’s London. I also designed and published ‘The Disability Card Deck’ – a playful, interactive artwork designed to foster open and meaningful conversations which centre disabled perspectives.

In 2026, I have been commissioned by UCL East Engage, creating an installation in response to research from the National Centre for Accessible Transport, funded by the Motability Foundation. I’ll be developing a playable artwork based on a reimagined buzzwire game, exploring access barriers in everyday journeys through urban streetscapes. Alongside this, I will be continuing to develop new artworks which explore parallels between changeling folklore and modern disability narratives.
